In this video we start off by explaining the very first action a DBA performs with respect to memory. Granting lock pages in memory is a permission SQL Server needs to be prevent windows from paging out data SQL Server has placed in the RAM. This ensures that SQL Server will always find its data pages in the memory. This significantly improves performance.
Memory is a core component of SQL Server Performance. Understanding how it works is critical to a good user experience, it is also among most difficult areas to troubleshoot. Unlike CPU or Disk there aren't many options available to fine tune it either. In this video series we begin an in-depth analysis of how memory works in SQL Server.
