In this video I am showing you how you can adjust your settings in Microsoft Teams to allow others to join and run a meeting in Teams that you organised … without you needing to be there!
This involves creating a custom meeting policy in your Teams Admin Centre, and then applying that setting to yourself as the user who creates meetings.
REMEMBER: this is a way of adjusting the settings for ALL meetings you create in Teams. It will allow people who have the meeting link to bypass the lobby and start the meeting regardless of whether you are there or not.
If you would like to have more control over which meetings this setting applies to – and not as a universal default setting – this is not the option you should use.
At the time of recording, I haven’t received or found any solution for this selective access. As soon as I know more, I will add a video sharing that as well, so make sure to subscribe or keep an eye out on my YouTube channel to make sure you don’t miss it!
This option will be ideal if you create a lot of meetings as an admin for an organisation or group, but don’t need to attend them. Think about board meetings, committees, volunteer groups, associations, and coaching sessions.
If you have delegate access to someone else’s calendar, and they want you to create the meetings – but they themselves will need to attend them – you won’t want this option either. See my comments in the summary on how that should work.
I love using Teams for meetings, and this is a great option to help you ensure that no one is stuck in the lobby if you aren’t around.
