AI/Sci-Fi Hype Slammed at U of California Regents Meeting
At a meeting of the University of California Regents' Investments Committee on May 16, 2023, a segment was devoted to artificial intelligence (AI) and presented by UC-Berkeley Professor Michael Jordan. Jordan criticized the science-fiction hype of AI and slammed Geoffrey Hinton (formerly of Google), Elon Musk, and Sam Altman as not understanding or misrepresenting the technology. Jordan's remarks were in response to a question by Regent Jose Hernandez.
