Here is how I made 35k gold in just a few hours of played time. I pretty much stockpiled all blue gems and once the patch dropped, rolled them on the AH for triple what I bought them for. Inferno Rubies alone made me the 35k. All the other gems are going to be a solid profit.
STEPS TO MAKE THIS MUCH GOLD:
1. Wait till a new patch is about to release that will release a new raid.
2. A few weeks prior, start stocking up on gems, enchants, food, pots, and even flasks.
3. Once the patch is released, start listing everything you farmed.
4. Make 200% profit easily =)

What to take from this:
Each patch, new gear/items will be wanted by thousands of people, so you need to provide compliments to those items by creating enchants, gems, anything to sell to the thousands that will want them.
Gems is a great gold mine. Use it.
