The Story:
We are Leon and Monique (Miek). We are film makers and full time van lifers.
Together with our cat Miyo and dog Myla, we travel in our converted Sprinter van Bruce. Miyo has been with us for 13 years, and has really adapted to the nomadic lifestyle. He loves exploring new places. In March 2020, during the first lockdown, we decided to rescue a puppy. Myla was dumped on the streets in a box in Romania, but found her way to us in the Netherlands. She is now 1.5 years old, and has really gotten used to traveling and living in a van.
In August 2017 Miek was in a car crash and suffered from a whiplash. We had been chasing our careers for over 10 years, but in that split second that didn’t matter anymore. The next 10 months were alla bout trying to recover. Even going to a restaurant for an hour was not possible anymore. Let alone trying to work 8 or 9 hours a day. After 10 months Miek was recovered for about 90%. The other 10% will probably always stay an incovenience. When she recovered in June 2018 we went on holiday to Scotland and that’s where we decided we wanted to change our livestyle and travel full time. 2 months after that holiday in we had both quit our jobs and had sold our house.
We wanted to spend a year in Scotland in a van. We bought a class B camper van and moved to Scotland in January 2019. After a month on the road we knew that we wanted to live the van life longterm. We soon developed a love for videography. We started a Youtube channel as we wanted to start sharing our adventures and van lifestyle with others. In December 2019 VanTastic Traveling was born.
We have now been on the road for just over 2 years, and have recently bought our second home on wheels, a converted Sprinter van (September 2020). Our passion for both van life and videography is still growing every day, and we are currently planning our biggest (post covid) road trip into Europe so far!
The van – Bruce
Bruce is a 2009, 170 extended Sprinter van and has a 2.2 Diesel engine which is chip tuned, so he has 160 BHP.
