This is the footage of Super Typhoon Saola smashing into Hong Kong and this was taken when the cyclone was 20km away from here. Many waves slashed onto the Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hum promenade when the highest typhoon/cyclone warning was imposed.

Timeline of events:

T1 warning was issued on Wednesday evening (30/8)
T1 is a standby precautionary signal, as the typhoon entered the 800km radius within Hong Kong.
Over the uncertainty of the trajectory of the typhoon, it was decided NOT to raise to T3 at that moment

T3 was announced on Thursday 31/8, as the government prepares for the worst and announces a shutdown of the city on Saturday.
Under the T3 warning, it shows the Super Typhoon Saola is getting a little closer to Hong Kong and winds of 41 to 62km/hour will start to affect the city.

On Friday at 2.40am, HKO has announced the T8 Cyclone warning. A No.8 NorthWest Gale or storm signal means that schools, offices, tours, public transport, taxis, shops, restaurants, ferries, trains, flights are all cancelled or closed.
MTR tube will run normally in a limited interval.

No.8 NorthEast Gale or Storm signal continued until 6pm when it was UPGRADED to a No.9 Increasing Gale or Storm. This is the second most severe warnings with hurricane-force winds of over 118km per hour, gusts of over 220km per hour, and torrential rain.

However, this was UPGRADED to the highest alert:
No.10 Hurricane Signal. In +10, it gives warning of a hurricane-force wind.
Hurricane-force winds range upwards from 118 kilometres per ho but gusts may exceed 220 kilometres per hour.

At this time, citizens are strongly advised to stay indoors and close curtains to avoid windows falling and smashing into the house.
