It is clear that women are underrepresented in the movie industry. How do you
think this could be changed.
I will now begin my presentation and the topic of discussion is about women and
their underrepresentation in the movie industry.
Firstly, let’s talk about that in this world where we are living in a society, not only
the men are important but also the women are building block of society. Women
in every region form a crucial aspect of the society. It is crystal clear that without
women, the prosperity and development of a society can remain a day dream. Due
to the immense significance and role, they need to be kept at a privileged position.
They should be given ample opportunities to utilize their potentials and play their
role in the development of a society same as the men get all opportunities.
The current discussion is mainly regarding the status and role of women in film
industry. It has been observed that women have been kept suppressed and almost
dormant by the male gender in the film and drama industry. Though they have been
given several roles to play but in majority cases they are deprived of the major roles
like having a central status in movie or having the authority to direct or produce a
film. It's same like imitation of the Shakespeare's plays in which he never gives a
central position to the female characters and I believe that the same attitude is
dragging us to the stone ages.
Though, the trend has been changed a bit. We can see different female characters
in certain Novels dominating the whole plot of the novel and mainly it's just
because of the wave of feminism and the related movements.
Moreover, it's also a fact that we rarely see females directing or producing a movie
or a play. It does need to be considered and the solution for it is that, female related
issues and themes should be addressed which can validly be produced or directed
by females.
According to the one article published in the guardian newspaper of Britain, it is
said that the number of women has been increased. But they are on low position.
However, men have reserved positions like producers, directors or
cinematographers. Women on other side, they do small little job in showbusiness
and in movie industry. I have personal example because I belong to Pakistan and in
my country, as I watch Pashto cultural movies and even main Pakistani movies, I
see that usually the director & producer of movies are males. Women on the other
side, take a small role and the reason is that our country is patriarchal, where man
control every appear of life.
According to my opinion if women also get degree in showbusiness and especially
in production and then why not they being encouraged to get some valuable
position? Being s society member it’s our responsibility to uplift the women of our
culture and surrounding.
In conclusion, I have my personal reflection here to mention that this showbusiness
is growing field. Any economy of any country can get thousands of benefits if we
can work on our film industry. Women should not only be the part of movies being
actresses, they are able to do more wonders.
