When Aravinda de Silva made Jos Buttler Cry 😭
For Indian cricket fans, Taunton holds a lot of happy memories.It is the venue where Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid completely destroyed Sri Lanka in the 1999 world cup.Both of them added 318 runs for the 2nd wicket.Ganguly slammed 183 runs and Dravid made a classy 145.India reached a massive total and eventually won the game by a huge margin of 157 runs.The victory was a sweet revenge for Indians, who had been humiliated in the World Cup semi-final in 1996 against the same opponents at Eden Gardens.
Jos Buttler, who was 8 years old at that time lived in Taunton and he watched that match live.
But There was a moment in the game that left him in tears.Srilankan cricketer Aravinda de Silva was fielding near the boundary line when Buttler went to ask him for an autograph.
Aravinda happily gave him his autograph but at the same time a fielding change happened, and the Srilankan quickly ran to his new fielding spot,But in the process, forgot to return the pen which the 8 year old Jos had given him for the signature.
This huge mistake by Aravinda De Silva completely shattered Jos Buttler and he went back to his mother crying that Aravinda De Silva, the Srilankan legend had stolen his pen.
20 years Later,in 2019,right after Buttler’s team won the world cup, Aravinda got to know about the incident in a podcast and apologised to jos buttler for making him cry.He said that he’s extremely sorry and he would return the pen to jos only if he provides his autograph for Aravinda’s three sons who were big fans of Buttler’s batting.
