Madame du Barry (1743–1793) was the last official mistress of #King Louis XV of #France. Born Jeanne Bécu to a modest family, she rose from humble origins to become one of the most influential women at the French court.

After catching the eye of Louis XV, she was introduced at #Versailles and became his mistress in 1769, following the death of his previous favorite, Madame de Pompadour. Jeanne was known for her beauty and charm, but her background and extravagant lifestyle made her a target for criticism from the nobility, particularly Queen Marie Antoinette.
When the #frenchrevolution erupted, Madame du Barry tried to navigate the turbulent political environment. However, in 1793, she was accused of being loyal to the monarchy and conspiring with foreign powers. She was arrested, tried, and ultimately guillotined during the Reign of Terror.
