RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences has celebrated the conferring of the second cohort of students to complete the RCSI Certificate in Lifestyle Medicine.
174 RCSI students, at various stages of their studies across the Schools of medicine, pharmacy and physiotherapy, completed the optional Certificate in parallel with their degree studies.
One of the first of its kind in the world, the RCSI Certificate in Lifestyle Medicine was developed by RCSI’s Department of Health Psychology, in collaboration with colleagues in the School of Physiotherapy and the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences.
The course gives students evidence-based knowledge and practical strategies to instil healthy lifestyle behaviours in themselves and their future patients. It addresses the six pillars of healthy lifestyle: stress management, nutrition, physical activity, sleep, smoking, and alcohol and drug use, with the aim of teaching the importance of health behaviours and skills of health behaviour change techniques, and how these can be used to change personal health behaviours and that of patients.
