Ringtail (Bassariscus astutus)
Ringtails, sometimes incorrectly referred to as ringtail cats, are not cats at all. Instead, this small mammal is more closely related to the raccoon and its tail could easily be mistaken for such. And while it is the state mammal for Arizona, these shy creatures also inhabit rocky areas of southern California.
