"They told me I'd given birth to a suicide bomber," Olga recalls, describing the time when HIV first appeared in her life.
Olga has been living with HIV for 20 years. She learned of her status a month after giving birth, and when her son was three, he too was diagnosed. This was the early 2000s, a time when people didn't yet understand the difference between HIV and AIDS, treatment wasn't prescribed to everyone, and talking about HIV was scary and, essentially, impossible.
But many years have passed since then, and much has changed. In this episode of "Voice of E.V.A.", we spoke with Olga about the impact of starting ART late on her son's life and how to raise a confident, goal-oriented, and successful son, no matter what.
I'd like to add that we've featured many personal stories in our podcast before, but this is the first time we've spoken so openly about fear and guilt with our subject. Listen, perhaps Olga's story will help those in a similar situation avoid drowning in guilt and strive for the best for their child.
