What's behind a cup of coffee? That was the question that motivated the Scientific Culture team of the Communication Department of the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL), to develop the documentary series "Café de Loja: science, art and tradition", about this product that has conquered international markets.

Specialty coffee is one of the agricultural sectors with the highest margins for innovation globally. The trends and patterns of consumption throughout the world are very dynamic, this dynamism generates opportunities and challenges. From genetics, microbiology, modernization of crops through the implementation of precision agriculture, the search for new post-harvest processes, new flavor profiles, new strategies to reach the consumer, etc... are vital to be at the forefront in such a competitive industry.

The documentary series consists of 7 chapters, which are divided as follows:

In the heart: this chapter takes a look at the cultural roots of coffee in Loja and the biogeographical characteristics that make its coffee production unique.

A journey of flavors and aromas: this episode explores a large part of the coffee chain and the different processes, from the plant to international marketing, to obtain a quality product.

Coffee stories (Part 1 and 2): consists of two chapters that narrate the personal stories of producers, forming a great story around coffee in Loja.

The cycle of life: this chapter seeks to understand the biodiversity, visible and microscopic, associated with coffee production.

Golden Cup: this episode seeks to answer the question: What is behind a coffee contest?

Beyond the drink: Coffee has always been seen as a drink, in this chapter the applications of coffee in the gastronomic field are explored
