FLASLocated in New Mexico southeastern New Mexico, Carlsbad Caverns National Park lies near the base of the Guadalupe Mountains, which are part of the southern Rocky Mountains. The park has a surface area of 73 square miles (189 square kilometers). Beneath it are some 120 known caves, including Carlsbad Cavern. The park also includes Rattlesnake Springs, a separate area about 5 miles (8 kilometers) to the southeast.
