IBM had a dual-core chip in 2000, but dual-core didn't hit the consumer desktop until 2004.

Core- tiny di on the processor chip iself that will actully do the work.

Hyperthreading- takes the single processor that you had before and actully splits up the tasks into two virtul processors. So when one is doing a specific task the other virtul processor does the other task. Both "threads" share the same cache and transistors.

Dual-Core- features two sets of transistors and cache, keeping the cores seperated. Each core is sending and recieving seperate data and performing seperate tasks, thus not being related to each.

Dual-Core Hyperthreading- both cores feature hyper-threading, so the computer will see four processors.
