DIY Retrofitting a CFL Can Light with an LED Can Light
I replaced some of the annoying CFL lights in my kitchen with new LED lights. The old lights would flicker for a few seconds before coming, didn't produce enough light, and in general were just very annoying. The new LED lights are instant on and very bright.

I bought the 6" IC-rated can from Home Depot.
The trick with positioning one of the clips below the ceiling worked very well. It put pressure on the can to push it to the side of the hole where the flange on the can could catch with the ceiling, and it provided some support to the ceiling as well. The alternative would have been to try to attach something to the flange on the can to make the flange bigger.
