... Why do you think, of all the aspects of the lives of so-called celebrities, we most often highlight their sexual exploits in the press? And why do we relish all the dirt and vileness with particular enthusiasm? That's precisely the point. If a celebrity is someone's idol, then the person, consciously or not, will adopt that same behavioral model, because they want to be like their idol.
"I thought that if people like a musician, performer, or actor, they only want to be like them in their work..." Alex said thoughtfully.
"Not really," liquor magnate Vasily Vasilyevich joined the discussion. "The problem is that most people don't have a talent for writing, singing, poetry, and so on. Or rather, they might have talent, but developing it and becoming popular requires time, effort, patience, and so on. But people want to be like their idol here, now, and without much effort. And we play well on this peculiarity of the human psyche. We talk about celebrities' drinking, their infidelities, their carousing, and their escapades, and people begin to copy them, consciously or not, thinking that this is the hallmark of a successful creative person."
"And yet, how can I convince a celebrity to get a tattoo?"
"Convincing someone in particular is a rather thankless task, often requiring a great deal of effort," Ivan Ivanovich replied. "You can, of course, pressure them, force them, but the effect won't be the same. The person needs to be genuinely proud of their squalid appearance, convinced of all the nonsense Vasily Vasilyevich just so expertly described to us."
"And where can we find such a popular idiot?" Alex asked, disheartened.
"There's no need to look for anyone," the television king continued to explain. "In modern show business, stars are as much a fast food product as any convenience food in the supermarket. You mentioned that all sorts of freaks and prostitutes are visiting your salons now. Tell me, are there any among them with musical inclinations?"
"Maybe there are some, but their speech is primitive, and their voices are usually either smoky or slow, with a drug-fueled intonation, and they curse every other word. How can you make a 'star' out of someone like that?"
"Trust the professionals, Alex," Vasily Vasilyevich rejoined the conversation. "If you control the major media, you can make a star out of anyone these days. And regarding the drug-fueled intonations, you and I can even cooperate here."
