Simple Plastics! Rimworld Mod Showcase
Plastics in Rimworld Alpha 17. It's an awesome mod that allows you to have an intermediate bridge between wood and steel, it's awesome.
'Simple Plastic is a mod that adds standalone plastic to RimWorld, but in a balanced (both economically and as a stuff item) and therefore vanilla-friendly implementation. Obtaining plastic is straightforward: by cargo pods, trade, or by refining chemfuel after researching plastic production.
As a stuff item, plastic serves largely as an intermediate between wood and steel; it has most of the goodness that wood has, but less flammable, significantly more durable, considerably more malleable, and lighter, but plastic however makes less beautiful artwork and furniture. Although plastic may displace wood, it'll never be able to match the capabilities of steel in most cases. On that note, plastic serves as both a 'Woody' and 'Metallic' stuff item, meaning that it can also be used in things like the manufacture of armor and defenses, but of course it won't be as effective as even steel in either case.
As for potential issues that you may be thinking of at this point, don't worry: melee raiders won't spawn with sharp weapons (e.g. spears, longswords) made out of plastic, and there won't be any ancient structures made out of plastic either.
Some other additions include...
Synthread Production: Upon completing the appropriate research, synthread can be produced at a tailoring bench from plastic and cloth! However, this can only be done by professional crafters and better.
Plastic Flooring: A very quick to lay flooring, serving as an alternative to concrete. Still ugly though, and also slightly flammable
For the other modders out there, you are more than welcome to make this mod a dependency for any items in your mods that you feel may require plastic as an ingredient.'
