The railway came to Rudgwick in 1865, with the station opening several weeks after the line opened on 2 Oct 1865, because of gradient problems highlighted by the inspector, it led to the raising of the bridge over the Arun by 10 ft to create a two-tier bridge.

It's now the logo of the Downs Link long distance path which has replaced the railway, and is possible to walk, cycle or ride between Guildford and Shoreham.
