The Crochet Box Stitch is a beautiful, intricate, and detailed pattern that creates a series of interlocking squares or boxes. To get started with this stitch pattern , we will crochet a chain of 10 +2. We will be using single crochets, double crochets, front post single crochets, and chain spaces. This stitch has a lengthy 8 row repeat, but its worth it! In a few places in this pattern, where you are placing your stitches can be a bit tricky. For example, sometimes we will be working our stitches 4 rows below. The Crochet Box Stitch Video Tutorial below should be helpful for that!
CROCHET BOX STITCH PATTERN
Chain multiples of 10 + 2 (0:53)
Row 1 (0:57):Single crochet (sc) in the second chain from hook. *Skip 4 chains. Work 5 double crochets (dc) into the next chain, chain 1, and work 5 more dc into the same chain. Skip 4 chains, work a sc in the next chain. Repeat from * across. Chain 1, turn.
Row 2 (3:09): Sc in the first stitch. *Front-post-single-crochet (fpsc) into the next 5 stitches, chain 1, fpsc in next 6 stitches. Repeat from *, ending with 1 single crochet in the final stitch. Chain 5, turn.
Row 3 (5:53): Dc into the first stitch. *Chain 3. Work a sc in the ch 1 sp of the previous row (the one in between the front post single crochets). Chain 3. Skip 5 stitches, work a dc in the next stitch, chain 2, work another dc into the same stitch. Repeat from * across. Chain 1, turn.
Row 4 (7:43): Sc into the first stitch, Chain 1, sc into the next dc of the row below. *Chain 3, sc into the sc of the previous row. Chain 3. Sc in the next dc of the previous row, chain 2, sc into the next dc of the row below. Repeat from * across. Chain 4, turn.
Row 5 (9:35): Work 4 dc in the sp between chain 4 and a dc in row 3 (2 rows below). Sc in the chain 1 space of row 1 (the one in between the double crochets). *Work 5 dc in the chain 2 space in row 3 (2 rows below), chain 1, work 5 more dc into same chain 2 space. Sc into the chain 1 space in row 1. Repeat from * across. At the end fo the row, work 5 dc into the chain 1 space of row 3. Chain 1. Work a dc into the last stitch of the previous row. Chain 2, turn.
Row 6 (13:15): Fpsc into the first 12 stitches. *Chain 1, fpsc into next 11 stitches. Repeat from * across. At the end of the row, chain 1 and work a sc into the turning chain. Chain 1, turn.
Row 7 (16:06): Sc into the first st. *Chain 3, skip 5 stitches. Dc into the next stitch, chain 2, dc into the same stitch again. Chain 3, skip 5 stitches, work a sc into the chain 1 space of the previous row. Repeat from * across. At the end of the row, sc into the last stitch. Chain 1, turn.
Row 8 (17:53): Sc into the first stitch. *Chain 3, sc into the first dc of the previous row. Chain 2, sc into the second dc of the previous row. Chain 3, sc into the sc of the previous row. Repeat from * until the end of the row. Chain 1, turn.
Row 9 (19:15): Sc in the space between chain 4 and dc in row 5 (four rows below). *Work 5 dc into the chain 2 space in row 7 (2 rows below). Chain 1, work 5 more dc into the same chain 2 space. Work a sc in the chain 1 space in row 5 (4 rows below). Repeat from * across. Chain 1, turn.
Repeat rows 2-9.
