How It Works:
Traffic Flow: GWLB sits between your clients and your application or service endpoints. It receives incoming traffic and directs it through a fleet of virtual appliances before sending it to its final destination.
Appliance Fleet: The virtual appliances, which can be firewalls or other security devices, are deployed in an Auto Scaling group to handle varying levels of traffic.
Health Checks and Monitoring: GWLB performs health checks on the appliances and distributes traffic only to healthy instances, ensuring high availability and reliability.
Integration Example:
Create GWLB: Set up the Gateway Load Balancer in your AWS account.
Configure Appliance: Deploy your virtual appliance in an Auto Scaling group within the same VPC.
Attach Target Group: Register the appliance instances with the GWLB target group.
Routing Traffic: Use GWLB to route traffic through the virtual appliances for inspection and filtering before it reaches your application servers.
