Carmen (1915) Cecil B. DeMille
Carmen is a film from 1915 by Cecil B. DeMille.
It is based on the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet. It's the first film starring the singer Geraldine Farrar.
In this film, which was a great success in the United States, DeMille shows that he knows how to direct his actors with great skill, but also that he takes great care with costumes and sets, in fact, he abandons the painted decor in favor of plastic elements. Thanks to these skills and to having assimilated Griffith's lesson, DeMille is able to exploit close-ups in a much more intense and expressive way. His characters acquire that psychological and emotional emphasis that Griffith's do not have.
