Japanese 80: Knives and katanas in Seki and Sakai
Seki and Sakai are the two main knife-making centers in Japan, with a craft that derives from the production of katanas for the samurai.
But in addition to knives, katanas are still made (although they aren't cheap), as well as all kinds of bladed tools and utensils. There are also workshops where you can make your own knives (they're often in progress).
If you don't make it to these places, we'll also tell you about other locations in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka (more central than Sakai, which is quite far south) where you can get your knives.
