Umbraco Together - Crafting a Better Editor Experience: Bringing Accessibility To Authoring Tools
We owe it, as the friendliest CMS and community in the world, to ensure everyone can use our services. As well as being a legal requirement or need for some sectors, it is also the right thing to do.
Following from the EU-commissioned We4Authors cluster, when many CMS venders came together to empower editors, we must ensure the work continues. In this talk, we will explore making the Umbraco back office accessible by further dissecting the lessons taken from the cluster and reiterating the importance of creating these features that will allow us to elevate our platforms’ accessibility.
We will also examine the current Authoring Tools Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG) and see how we can come together as a community to make a meaningful and impactful difference to the web and our users.

Danny was a healthcare adviser turned software test analyst. Driven by the ethos of the web being a platform for all, his role now includes being an accessibility advocate and a public speaker too. Accessibility and inclusive design are fundamental in making a usable service that has the widest reach to all customers and audiences. By supporting organisations, delivery teams and their customers, Danny has a proven mandate for change.
Danny has worked with the BBC, NHS Digital, Citizens Advice, Mind, Funka and many more to promote and embed accessibility principles.
He is a 3 time Umbraco MVP and a Sigma Tomorrow Pilot for his work in the field. He has also contributed to blogs such as Shopify and spoken at several events including Booking Innovation week and Umbraco UK Festival.
