While it is tempting to assume the adult is a biological parent, we can’t be sure without knowing the particular bird and its social group. Some Purple Swamphens live as a monogamous pair and raise their young with help from earlier broods. Others live in promiscuous groups whereby they all assist each other, whether they be breeders or not. Given this assistance includes the protection and feeding of chicks the adult swamphen in the video might not be the parent.
