TheFort Ep2: What is The Fort? The Plan
So, what is The Fort exactly? It’s a multifunctional piece of furniture that serves many purposes in a single, well-thought-out design. First and foremost, it’s a loft bed with a decent height that fits a queen-sized mattress. And instead of wasting the space underneath, I’m turning it into a workspace.
By using the same footprint for both sleeping and working, I’m maximising the use of my space. And I don’t have to make my bed anymore! 🤭 Plus, as a third function, the structure will provide ample storage space for clothing and personal items.
So, after careful planning, The Fort will measure around 200cm x 160cm (imperial ~ 6’6” x 5’3”), with an interior height of 150cm (imperial ~ 4'10''). This will leave roughly 80 - 90cm (imperial ~ 2’7” - 2’11”) on the upper side (sleeping area).
And the best part: I’m repurposing everything I have from my old closet, so the COST of my build should be close to ZERO.
I also plan on reducing my wardrobe only to necessary items and get rid of all the stuff that I haven’t touched in some time. So there will be less storage space needed than before but enough for two people.
Of course, I know this project won't be easy. Building a multifunctional piece of furniture like The Fort requires skill and attention to detail. But, as they say, nothing worth having comes easy.
Will I be able to build it? I don’t know. Will it be useful or will I have ruined all of my old furniture for nothing?
So far I managed to build 2 -3 unfinished pieces just to get the feel on how big this thing will actually be. Stay tuned for future updates as I document the process of building The Fort.
