Hey guys!
With spring rapidly approaching (where I live at least xP ), I have been feeling increasingly more excited and energetic and I really wanted to celebrate in some way! I decided to do so with a two-part makeup series inspired by the greek goddess Persephone.
For those of you unfamiliar with the mythology of Persephone:
Persephone was the daughter of Zeus and the harvest goddess Demeter. She was kidnapped by Hades, god-king of the Underworld, vanishing from both heaven and earth on his chariot. In mourning for the loss of her daughter, Demeter neglected her duties as a goddess, and allowed the grasses and life of the world to die. She searched high and low for her Persephone, until her ever-increasing rage and the cries of the people, hungry and dying of starvation, persuaded Zeus to unveil the plot he had hatched with Hades. He allowed Hades to take Persephone, knowing the King of the Underworld fancied her and that Persephone’s mother would never give her daughter to him. The God-messenger Hermes was sent to fetch her from the Underworld, but when he arrived he found that, rather than withering in the darkness, she had instead become a bold and noble Queen of the Dead.
Persephone returned to the surface with Hermes, but not before being tricked by Hades into eating a handful of pomegranate seeds. Having tasted the food of the Underworld, she was now bound to it, and would return to spend every winter with Hades, where her mother would mourn for her, and let the plants die in her absence, only for Persephone to surface again in the spring, bringing with her a renewal of life, flowers, and birth, thus making her simultaneously a Goddess of Spring, and Queen of the Underworld.
For this video, to celebrate the coming of Spring, I created a depiction of Persephone as the Goddess of Spring!
I wanted to tie the two looks together using a couple similar elements in their design. The wig and eye makeup remained the same, I kept the use of scattered petals about the face and body, and used blue eyeshadow (pretty much every color in the BH palette xP) over the neck as one final reference between my spring and winter versions of Persephone. I wanted to really emphasize the vibrancy and joy of her alternate position as the Goddess of Spring, so I used very bright colors, but feel free to use whatever colors and shades you prefer.
I really enjoyed creating this pair of makeup looks and hope you guys enjoyed watching them as well!
