🌳 Assam's 'Forest Man': Jadav Payeng 🌳
Let's talk about Assam's very own 'Forest Man,' Jadav Payeng, also known as the 'Forest Man of India.'
In 1979, when Jadav Payeng was just 16 years old, he witnessed a tragic event that changed his life. A devastating flood had brought a large number of snakes to his area, which later perished on the barren sand due to extreme heat. Deeply moved by this, Jadav decided to take action. He planted 20 bamboo saplings, marking the beginning of an incredible journey. 🌱 Despite numerous challenges, Jadav nurtured these plants with care and continued planting trees daily.
Over the next 40 years, what was once a desolate sandy expanse blossomed into a thriving forest covering over 1,360 acres, now known as Molai Kathoni, named in his honor. 🌲🌳
In recognition of his remarkable efforts, Jawaharlal Nehru University awarded him the title of 'Forest Man of India' in 2012. In 2015, he was further honored with the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian awards. 🏅
This extraordinary son of Assam is a source of immense pride for every Assamese, showing the world the profound impact one person's dedication can have on the environment. 🌍
