"It’s not often that opera and sitcom are mentioned in the same breath, but that’s exactly the pairing you get with the story of hair and make up designer Cynthia De La Rosa. Initially, she studied for a BFA in costume design in the US - with a minor in psychology (which apparently comes in handy on set) - when an internship with acclaimed Broadway hair designer Tom Watson lured her to the “dark side of wigs, hair and make up”. From there, she interned with the V&A in London and loved the city so much that, after graduation in 2005, she moved to the Uk’s capital, landing a job with the English National Opera.
It was a decade later, while designing for the West End, that Cynthia was first brought in by a friend to fix some wigs on a film production. Slowly more screen work started to come her way, many of it uncredited, including the likes of Mary Queen of Scots (2018), The Crown (2019), The Windsors
(2016-2020) and Killing Eve (2020). More recently, she’s stepped into a senior role in the hair and make up department for sitcom Everyone Else Burns and comedy-drama Dreaming Whilst Black (both 2023)."
