I captured this white humpback whale calf while flying my drone! After sending the footage to experts, they confirmed that it might be albino (highly unlikely) or, more likely, leucistic (a rare pigmentation mutation)—both incredibly rare conditions, with less than a 0.01% chance of occurring.

⚠️ Disclaimer: Without a biopsy sample or a close-up look at its eyes, it’s impossible to say for certain. This is just drone footage—I’m not claiming to confirm if it’s albino or leucistic. We may never know for sure…

Albino or Leucistic?
👉 Albino: Complete lack of melanin, with pink or reddish eyes. Pure white.
👉 Leucistic: Partial loss of pigmentation, but with normal-colored eyes. Whiter than usual.

I actually filmed this footage last year, but at the time, I had no idea what I had captured! Just two days ago, I revisited the footage and realized how incredibly rare this sighting was, so I sent it to scientists.

White humpback whales are extremely rare, and most don’t survive to adulthood. Their lack of pigmentation makes them more visible to predators like killer whales (orcas) and large sharks.

What do you think? Albino, leucistic, or just an unusually pale calf? Let me know in the comments!
