VALE DO CATIMBAU - PERNAMBUCO
Catimbau National Park, also known as Catimbau Valley, is a national park in Pernambuco created in 2002. It encompasses the municipalities of Buíque, Ibimirim, and Tupanatinga, between the Agreste and Sertão regions of Pernambuco. The park is the second largest archaeological park in Brazil and preserves one of the last areas of the Caatinga biome.
The immense rock walls have unique shapes and conceal an intense mysticism. The valley has several archaeological sites, caves, prehistoric cemeteries, and rock paintings that are over six thousand years old.
Catimbau National Park is also known as the second largest archaeological park in Brazil, housing rock inscriptions from various distinct periods, dating from 2000 to 6000 years ago, made by hunter-gatherer peoples who used the park as shelter and dwellings for many years.
In the immense rock walls, various archaeological sites, caves, prehistoric cemeteries, and rock paintings of the most varied styles are found.
