Why are we so lazy in the morning? It's related to the activity of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. It takes some time after waking for the sympathetic nervous system to fully activate, switching us from "vegetable" mode to "working" mode.

An effort of will and starting a light workout or exercise can speed up awakening.

Generally speaking, exercising in the morning is a good idea if you enjoy it. If not, you'll only last a couple of weeks and then give up. There'll be little point.

But you don't have to exercise in the morning to reap all the benefits. You can do some exercises at any time of day, and this "workout" can last only a couple of minutes, but even that will be beneficial.

For example, this study (PMID: 38190022) shows that even a couple of sets of the same exercise provide undeniable health benefits in the long term.

The study itself uses the term "workout snacks." These are extremely short training sessions, done throughout the day. For example, a couple of sets of squats while you're having lunch at work. Or a set or two of push-ups.

This training option is suitable for those who, for whatever reason, don't have time for a full-fledged workout lasting an hour or two.

Furthermore, this training option is just as good as a full-fledged workout, as long as your exercise sets are intense enough and you complete enough of them per week.
