Palpatine owes his ability to conquer the galaxy from the shadows in large part to the actions of his apprentice, Count Dooku. Dooku, who first appeared in "Episode II - Attack of the Clones," was one of the most capable Sith Lords, but was unfortunately often underestimated compared to the others. Over the years, however, his complex story and motives have been explored in various novels, comics, and most recently in the animated series "Tales of the Jedi."
