When you are opening pin feathers on your parrot's head, avoid opening or touching blood feathers! While it is ok, and even beneficial, to help your parrot open mature pin feathers on the head, never open them before they are ready. When the pin is short, firm, and dark, it is still growing. Touching this can agitate or hurt your parrot or even cause bleeding.
So, open long, light, flaky pin feathers that are ready to open but avoid short, firm, dark feathers until they mature.
