👀See what happens to plastic foam at the bottom of the ocean🌊🤯
Scientists studying undersea volcanoes such as Axial Seamount off Oregon's coast use remotely operated submersible vehicles for taking images and collecting data.
A fun tradition on these research voyages is decorating plastic foam cups (or in this case, a mannequin head) and sending them down to the ocean floor. As the vehicle descends, the rising water pressure squeezes the air out of the foam, causing the objects to shrink!
