A 40 year old patient, mother of two, had come to see me 3 months ago with complaint of progressively worse cyclical pain, heavy bleeding, and random sharp pains. She had been scheduled for surgery and had come to see me for a second opinion. On ultrasound I diagnosed her with adenomyosis and suggested a trial of medical management. We started on a combination of therapies and her condition progressively improved. On today’s follow up her heavy bleeding and pain had resolved. She no longer dreaded her monthly cycles. Made my day:)
Adenomyosis can have negative effects on fertility, blood count, blood iron levels, pain during intercourse, and lower abdominal distention.
