I bought this tool primarily for teaching glass cutting. I often have students with hand issues: previous injury, arthritis, Parkinsons, tendonitis...I even had a one-handed student many years ago. The Cutters Mate has a hinged arm and weighted scoring tool so that you can cut glass with very little stress on your hands.
Last winter, I unboxed this tool, gave it a try, and then put it away because I get much more accuracy just using the standard Toyo cutters. However, my Osteoarthritis recently reached a point where my left hand is less functional and now I'm overusing my right hand, so I'm doing everything I can to alleviate any stress on either hand. I've been forced to practice more with the Cutters Mate and I was surprised how quickly my precision improved. If you have issues with your hands and you do a lot of this work, I think this is a good tool to get accustomed to. Take care of those hands!
*I'll be having hand surgery in October 2024 and will be on hiatus over winter.
