Zero Fuel Weight - [What it is and how does affect your Flight Operations].
Today we are going to talk about ZERO FUEL WEIGHT (ZFW).
By the end of this video, you will know what the Zero Fuel Weight is and how does it affects your Flight Operations.
The ZFW is the weight of your aircraft ready for take-off without the take-off fuel.
So, if you take your ZFW and add the take-off fuel you will get the Take-off Weight (TOW).
The Maximum Zero Fuel Weight (MZFW) is the heaviest the aeroplane can be assuming there is no usable fuel in the tanks.
This is a Certified structural limit and is provided by the Aircraft Manufacture.
If you search on the Airplane Flight Manual you will have the MZFW, this limitation doesn't change with the external conditions such as weather.
Your actual Zero Fuel Weight must be below the MZFW.
On the LIDO flight plan, you will have a field where the maximum weights are reported and there you can find a reminder of your MZFW.
Also, in the LIDO you can find the estimated Aircraft Weights, these estimates are calculated by the dispatching office.
In real life, many passengers that book the flight don't show up, thus your actual ZFW, normally, is below you estimated Zero Fuel Weight.
The ZFW is very important to take into consideration because it will tell you how many passengers and how much cargo you can carry onboard for that specific flight.
