Here i have discussed that loop diuretics are a class of medications that increase urine output by acting on the loop of Henle in the kidney, specifically inhibiting the sodium-potassium-chloride (Na⁺/K⁺/2Cl⁻) cotransporter. This prevents reabsorption of these ions, leading to more water being excreted. They’re powerful diuretics used to manage fluid overload in conditions like heart failure, kidney disease, and edema. Common examples include furosemide, bumetanide, and torsemide. Loop diuretics work quickly and are effective at reducing blood pressure and swelling, but can lead to side effects like electrolyte imbalance, dehydration, and low blood pressure.
