NAMIBIA MARITIME MUSEUM - Grand Opening, 11 September 2024
Grand opening of the Namibia Maritime Museum (NMM) at Lüderitz, ||Kharas Region. The NMM is set to be one of Africa's largest maritime museums.
The museum covers 2,000 square meters and features ancient watercraft, fossils, maps, a library, and a treasure trove of thousands of antiques, art displays, and skeletal remains of sharks.
It is housed in the historic Old Power Station complex on three floors facing the Atlantic Ocean. It features modern amenities such as a state-of-the-art gym, a restaurant, and an auditorium, making it a multifunctional venue.
The museum aims to foster a deep understanding of the ocean and enhance marine literacy among Namibians, particularly targeting young people. It will also serve as a major marine research centre for seamen and students of higher education from all over the country
