Toor Merchant: First Look
Today we talk about my semi fresh reactions to the brand new Toor Merchant folding knife! (crowd cheers)
in editing this, I realized how much I undersold the pricing problem. A S35VN Titanium handled pocket knife is far from a rare thing in today's market. Thanks to the work of Kizer, Bestech and others, $250 for a knife of this quality and makeup feels way overblown. Toor is an aggressively american company, so they would likely respond "that's the price of american craftsmanship" except that Zero Tolerance ALSO has similar knives listed for ~$100 less. The truth is that you are paying to support your friends first folding knife. There are some OBVIOUS and foundational misses in this design. They also got some stuff right that frame lock manufacturers often miss, like a proper cut out for lockbar access that I forgot to include in this version of the video. My point is that it is important to look thru the hype of a thing to see what it actually brings to the table. What was done in the execution of this knife was done well. The problem is that the design wasn't finished and the price balloons because it can. Toor put their foot into the game and it seems to be going fine, but they NEED to do better than this for their next swing.
