Elden Ring's Biggest Problem
Elden Ring is one of my favorite games. As a long time Dark Souls fan, and general FromSoftware fan, I was beyond excited when Elden Ring was first announced years ago. I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into an open world version of the Dark Souls games, set in a brand new world and packed with all-new enemies, lore, items, weapons, and challenges. My first experience Elden Ring was unlike any other gaming experience I've had in recent memory. It's open world was one of the best that I'd seen at that point and I had never felt more immersed in a single-player game than I did when I was exploring the Lands Between. My first playthrough was truly a 10/10 experience, and playing it blind was the best choice I could have made! Upon starting my 2nd playthrough is when the cracks began to show. As great as Elden Ring was the first time, the second time around felt lacking and empty. The game's open world became more of a chore to slog through since I had already experienced everything that was hidden in it's terrain. This lead me to the conclusion that Elden Ring's biggest problem, is that its open world design lends itself to a lack of replayability for most players. In this video, I explore Elden Ring's biggest problem, as well as share my view points on the game - just in time for the upcoming DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree!
