Google Sheets has built-in functionality to make it easy to filter data alphabetically, numerically, or by color. This video will show you how to use filters in Google Sheets to filter text alphabetically, numbers from smallest to largest or largest to smallest, dates from oldest to newest or newest to oldest, and how to group rows by color.

Google sheets has built-in functionality to make it easy to filter data alphabetically, numerically or by color.
Open your google sheet with the data you need to sort.
You can see that our fictitious data consists of 10 peoples names, birth dates, location and age.
If we want to filter by any of these parameters - select a cell that contains the data and then click the “create a filter” button in the menu bar.
You’ll notice that filter arrows appear in the header of each column
If we click the filter in the name column we can sort the names alphabetically.
If we select the birthday column we can short from newest to oldest or oldest to newest.
If we select the age column we can select from youngest to oldest or oldest to newest.
If we used color to identify some other information about each person, we could group the data by color as well. If we randomly assign some color to some people using the fill color button we can then go and sort by color.
