Problems and Solutions When Reassembling an Air Conditioner Flare Nut

1. Problems with Old Piping
Old air conditioner pipes may harden and not seal as tightly as before when retightening the flare nut.
This can lead to a risk of refrigerant leakage.

2. Solutions
Re-flaring
The best solution is to re-flare the flared portion of the pipe.
This will improve the seal even if the pipe has hardened.
Especially when reusing existing pipes, such as buried pipes in apartments, re-flaring is essential to prevent refrigerant leakage.

Using Nylog

If the flare nut is warped or bent and difficult to re-flare, you can use a sealant called Nylog.
Applying Nylog to the connection between the service valve and the flare nut will improve the seal and reduce refrigerant leakage. Some air conditioner manufacturers (e.g., LG) recommend using Nylog.
This is especially true when using a used unit or reusing existing piping.
Because each technician has their own expertise, it's important to choose the right method for your situation rather than forcing a specific method on others.
