Resolution determines the detail contained in an image for the purposes of print output only, typically measured in linear pixels per inch or PPI, resolution is tied to a physical size, and it's essential to obtain the appropriate amount of detail so that the human eye can resolve a printed image when viewed at a particular distance. Reading, for example, at roughly 18in, requires a resolution of 300 pixels per linear inch, whereas the Billboard artwork only requires a resolution of 15 pixels per linear inch when typically viewed at distances of at least 50ft or 50m.
