Top 3 tips on taking the BEST GOPRO TIME LAPSE!
Here are some of the best time lapses I took over the past few years!
I love taking time lapses in different locations I travel to, and each and every one of these time lapses tends to remind of a certain moment during that trip.
After years of trying to capture the best time lapse using only a GoPro, here are the top 3 tips:
1) Always make sure you place your camera correctly - sunrise and sunset are my favorite times to capture a time lapse, but they are always the most difficult since the fluctuating light might end up ruining the shot. I usually set the setting to auto and 1s capture, so that I end up with a long time lapse, and can edit it in post. Invest in a Joby GorillaPod which will allow you to set up your GoPro almost anywhere. GorillaPods can be pricey, and are always breaking on me, so using an alternative is completely fine.
2) Clouds are key! Too cloudy and your time lapse will end up looking too grey, no clouds at all will end up with a plain blue sky. Moderate amount of moving clouds is what you are looking for.
3) For night lapses, always use the "Night Lapse Photo" feature on your GoPro, and edit it in post. It is recommended to set the shutter to 15s, 20s or 30s, depending on the amount of light. What i do is try to take a couple of test shots just to make sure. From past experiences, it is absolutely crucial to plug your GoPro into a power source (I use a power bank). Since it will only be snapping a shot every 30s or so, your GoPro will end up dying before it gets the chance to record a large numbers of photos.
