Stay up to date with the latest on avian flu in cattle. Learn about the current trend, what can we learn from the states with current infections, and health tips that may protect you.

Here is the latest report from Reuters stating Industry and the USDA have been colluding to protect industry financials instead of public health and the cattle industry. Because industry has tried to minimize restrictions to contain avian flu, it has put the whole U.S. dairy and cattle industry at risk and public health. The other thing this article highlighted is that non-lactating dairy cows being sent to slaughter are not required to produce documentation. The key reason cows infected with avian flu are sent to slaughter is they are no longer lactating. The science says the virus is found in the muscle tissue of infected cows. That infected cows are going to slaughter is a key reason to only buy from farms you know and avoid sale meats especially hamburger.

Even though industry is finally stating their is no evidence avian flu in cattle is from wild birds, it is interesting to note the first infection of this strain of avian flu into wild birds came from chickens in CAFO's. In this episode I talk about the initial infection, the unique flexibility this strain of Avian Flu has to jump into different species, and using science, create a hypothesis on how that could have happened and chickens unique role in this infection.
