I have been practicing art, portrait drawing for 13 years now.
I have done more several portraits just for the sake of practice.
I am a big fan of freehand style, for those of you who do not know what freehand is,
freehand means drawing someone without the help of grid

SO this is a portrait study of Nicki Minaj, a Trinidadian rapper/ singer , she is very famous on youtube.
In this photo I was able to find several values, so it was easy for me to define her cheeks and jaw.

This is something I finished within 3 hours span of time.
I am predominantly a portrait artist, I love to do portraits.
In order to do portraits, it is important to know the structure of all the facial features.
And it is also vital to know how to construct a face.
Once when you know how to do face construction, you will be able to do a freehand portrait study from photo
as well as from life very easily.
In order to achieve realism, you should know light theory. Light theory will help you decide on the values. Only with appropriate placement of values you can achieve sensible realism.
