TEST COMPARISON - HOW A STUDENT PREPARING FOR IGCSE ENGLISH IMPROVED HIS WRITTEN ENGLISH
In this video, people can observe how one of my students who is from an international school and who is preparing for the IGCSE English Language examination writes English after 20 months of tutoring online (2 hours a week). From someone who could hardly string correct English sentences in the English language (TEST 1), he has improved tremendously by Learning English Using The Structural Approach (TEST 2).
It also shows how he has learned to marshal his thoughts in an orderly manner, thus far. (The written test given in May 2022 was a surprise for him during the 2-hour online session. He was unprepared for it and he was given 1 hour to complete it.) He still has much to learn. By learning analysis and synthesis of sentences, he is on his way to write grammatically correct English sentences. A British educationist said it very aptly before 1970: “Learning a language requires patient study.”
To conclude, students and adults can write English proficiently when they have learned how to analyse (take apart) and synthesise (put together) sentences after a period of time. The study of analysis and synthesis of sentences can be found ONLY in Traditional Grammar. With that knowledge of “taking apart” and “putting together” English sentences, those same learners can present their thoughts and feelings to others clearly, correctly and confidently.
