In today's day and age most people don't think twice about treat training for dogs.
But think about it for a moment...
Why would your dog listen to you to get a treat when there are so many things more interesting than a treat?
Especially here in Utah...
If you're hiking in the canyons above Salt Lake, Ogden, or Utah county there are so many distractions like deer, squirrels, other dogs, and, of course, people. Is your dog going to listen to you for a treat? Or will he or she happily chase after the distraction?
What about other, everyday stuff?
Someone rings your doorbell, guests come over, you're on a walk in the neighborhood, etc.
Are treats going to be enough to keep your dog's attention?
Likely not.
There's a different way, though.
Using food as a resource rather than dog treats as a bonus attaches your dog's livelihood with 'work', in this case, obedience training and learning to overcome behavior problems.
This is a much more effective way to do dog training.
